Character: Yamamoto Takeshi
Canon: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Version: Manga version
Canon Point: directly after the TYL arc
Age:14
Gender: Male
History: http://reborn.wikia.com/wiki/Takeshi_Yamamoto
Personality:
Yamamoto is introduced as a typically cheerful, popular guy. He's very easy-going and nice to Tsuna even when everyone else was mean to him, and has a reputation around his school of Namamori of being friendly and charismatic. A lot of the girls in school find him attractive and even Tsuna says he's cool and popular. And he does give off that vibe, pretty much always smiling.
That's a lot because Yamamoto loves making friends, even out of cranky people like Gokudera. He's not easily discouraged by being pushed away with rudeness and basically attempts to kill everyone around him with kindness. If you need a favor, he'll probably gladly give you one, unless you put off a bad vibe. Because of this, he's easily able to make friends with Tsuna and join in on his mafia, hanging out with the group from that time forward.
However, he's incredibly naive about things, and that's putting it nicely. Pretty much from Reborn's initiation to the Vongola on, Yamamoto has a strange ability to wrap his head around all the crazy weaponry and enemies being thrown at him by not actually acknowledging them. He thinks Reborns rockets and bullets are realistic toys, Gokudera's dynamite are fireworks, and that somehow Tsuna/Reborn/someone has convinced a bunch of foreigners are playing the same mafia role playing game. He's not doing this to be malicious, however-he enjoys games and competitions and puts his whole heart into the thing anyway-he just doesn't exactly see what everyone else sees.
On that note, though, it's implied that sometimes, Yamamoto does know what's going on but pretends like he doesn't so he won't worry the other members: basically, he's much more astute and observant than the enemy or his friends really believe him to be.
That pretty much means its hard to get anything to startle him or throw him off, because he somehow manages to wrap his head around everything-unless his friends are threatened. He's shown that he can get serious when he knows his life is on the line and when others are-like during the battle with Squalo for the battle of the Vongola Rings-and even sacrificing his arm to beat one of Mukuro's lackeys in the arc before that. He's pretty visibly upset when any of the other guardians get injured, and in the Ten Years later arc, he jumped to shield a couple of kids without even questioning why he was in the future. He loves his friends and family a lot and will do anything to protect them.
Bringing it back to sacrificing his arm, its unusual for him because of his deep rooted love for baseball. It's what he wants to do with his life and he loves it almost too much-he even tries to kill himself in the beginning of the manga because he broke his arm practicing, but thankfully Tsuna saves him. Baseball as a sport is very important to him, to the point where he doesn't want to get himself injured again by protecting himself during his matches. He sacrifices his arm in one battle, though he later brushes it off saying it wasn't deep enough for concern.
Squalo later gets him on this because of the Ten Years Later arc, the point in Yamamoto's life where he really has to choose between baseball and the sword-aka his normal life, or the strange world he's been thrust into. He's been losing his swordfights because of his lack of commitment to either way and it's been a conflict that Yamamoto has been struggling with for awhile, not telling anyone else. He's not exactly the best at expressing himself, but his mentor is there to finally tell him to get it together, and overcoming his weakness, at the point where this Yamamoto comes from, he finally inherits the sword. It adds onto the significance because Yamamoto inherits it from his father, the only person he thinks is truly invincible.
You can see his deep seated admiration for the Shigure-soen-ryu style in the way despite Dino's warning, he still uses the sword style to fight Squalo, who is the destroyer of styles. Just because his father said it was 'completely unparalleled, flawless, and invincible'. Along the road he basically came to revere the sword as much as his baseball, though even to this day. Both of them define him as a person and his skill-set-he even incorporates baseball into his sword style, confusing and angering Squalo.
Yamamoto has a huge competitive vibe, only natural for a sports playing teenager, and if someone dares him to do something, he'll pretty much usually do it, and take it seriously as well. This is often seen when he's butting heads with Gokudera, as the storm guardian likes to goad him into passing as hard as he can when he's holding something.
Besides, despite being an idiot about a lot of things, he's 'born to be a natural hitman' as reborn describes him. He's atheletic, nothing bothers him, and he's harder to catch off guard than most. He's also incredibly loyal to his rain guardian position and is always there to help his family in need, no matter what it takes.
Fears:
A big fear is losing his friends and family, especially if he is not strong enough to protect them. He's already lost his dad once, and he really loves his dad. He's also protective of his body-especially his right arm because he's worried he'll never play baseball again. He's also got a fear of losing his purpose, especially since baseball was his only purpose for a long time. It's almost driven him to suicide before because he thought the only thing good about his life was baseball.
Weaknesses:
He's very naive, to the point where he thinks things are a game when they are really not, especially the mafia game. He'll wrap his head around things to make them normal to him, which annoys a lot of people. He's also not very book-smart, as he's often got his head filled with swords and baseball and is really bad at studying and grades. He is very smart, just...doesn't apply it.
He also gets sometimes way too obsessed with baseball for his own good, to the point where he will sacrifice his strength in order to protect himself from not being able to play baseball. He also will hold back in battle from killing his opponent even if his opponent is going all out to murder him. He's too naive in that way.
Yamamoto is also pretty bad at saying no to competitions and can be easily goaded into doing things do to his really competitive nature. Also is not quite aware of how strong him throwing things is....
Mundane Strengths/Abilities:
He has the ability to wield a sword, specifically Shigure Soen Ryu. His father taught him this style.
Shigure Soen Ryu:
The sword style that was passed down to him from his father. It's the 'best, most unparalled, invincible sword technique' that he learned and now uses in combination with his Shigure Kintoki. It has originally four offensive forms and four defensive forms, as well as a special ninth form made up by Yamamoto himself. Since then he's created two new forms and a special 'Aggregate art' which combines all the form into one.
Attacco di Squalo
A special attack with Yamamoto's sword that allows him to strike an enemy hard enough to paralyze them for a few seconds. He improves this by adding his Rain flames to his sword.
Yamamoto is also a really good baseball player, his favorite position is batter, but he's a well rounded player, and can swing a bat over 100kmph as well as knock out people with one of his fastballs.
He's also very athletic and fit, able to pick up on physical activities very quickly.
Sensitivity/Magical Ability:
Yamamoto's main ability is his Rain flames, which are basically flames made out of his own Dying Will. They basically are generated inside of his body and sustained by his will until he uses up too much and passes out, or shuts it off. His specific abilities due to these flames are as follows.
Rain flames/Main Vongola Ring: Yamamoto has Dying Will flames of the Rain element, which has a 'tranquility' effect. Basically anything he touches with the flames will calm or slow down. He can even use the flames on the Vongola Ring to detect incoming flame attacks like a radar.
Vongola Animal Box weapons: Yamamoto actually has two different animal box weapons: One of them is the Akita Inu named Jirou, who holds Yamamoto's three short swords for him made out of pure rain flames. Kojirou is a rain swallow, a little bird with the ability to emit rain flames and shower them on opponents-the bird is also seen used in conjunction with one of his Shigure Soen forms. These are now stored in the other Rain Ring Yamamoto has on him.
Cambio Forma: Ugetsu Asari's Four Irregular Swords: This form is achieved with both animal boxes: when Kojirou fuses with Shigure Kintoki to create a new ornate longsword, and Jirou provides the other three swords. It is a four sword style, requiring use of all the blades-the short ones can be used for propulsion as well.
Supply List: The two most important items Yamamoto will have on him is Shigure Kintoki, his bamboo sword, and his flame rings. Shigure Kintoki is a special bamboo sword that will only transform into a katana if he uses the Shigure Soen style. It's the same size as a normal katana.
His two rings will be either on his hand or around his neck, but they are large rings that basically look like class rings. These are what he wears in order to manipulate his flames. The other ring has the box animals inside of it. He can summon directly from the ring by 'opening' it with flames.
